Quinton Rumford

Author

Quinton Rumford is a pen name. I use it because it saves confusion as there are other authors out there with my given names. I am married to Lindy and we have two children and a dog called Freddie. My subject matter is varied fiction from fantasy, history to modern contemporary novels with a definite preference for sardonic, off-beat humour, sharp and scarlet dialogue and occasional debauchery with raunchy content. I am drawn to the raw, humorous and sexually challenging but ragged edge of contemporary life where creativity jostles with dancing reality to form unusual narratives and unique characters. If there is one constant in my books it is the outrageous and always blasphemous manner my vibrant but provocative fictional characters conduct their rackety and always deeply uninhibited and vividly scarlet lives.

So be warned in advance - if you are offended by raunchy sex, explicit language and an irreligious stance manifested by unusual and occasionally offbeat characters, most of my books are not for you.

To laugh is to live is one of my favourite sayings and if I can bring an occasional smile to a readers face I have more than partially succeeded. A good belly laugh is an even more precious reward for the many hours of scribbling and any remembered mirth above and beyond that is priceless and complete justification for me as a writer.

I was born in Wiltshire, England where I still live and write. It is an elegiac and mysterious county that has inspired many contemporary writers from Goldsmith to Tolkien with its talismanic, sacred and mighty stones of Avebury and which are nearby-see picture above - and, of course, Stonehenge, all dragged here by ancient man. I love to sit in the shadows of these mighty behemoths in the rolling Wessex downs with my dog Freddie of a summer’s day with a notebook, and give way to the inspiration cast by their unique and aged presence.

The narratives of the books I have written and listed on the accompanying Books page vary from early works of fiction featuring historic fantasy including four about these mighty stones at Avebury, through to a Tudor romp, contemporary counter-terrorism, savant genius and, currently, sassy, raunchy humour concerning the formation and early matches of a women’s rugby union team. These sassy women are my first attempt at writing humorous novels from a female standpoint.

I follow the French novelist Gustave Flaubert (1821 - 1880) who said: Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.

The British literary establishment – the agents and publishers that proliferate the Writers and Artists Year Book and other advertising media with their advertising and false words – was not made for rebellious writers like me who abhor the greed and ignorance of no-replies when correct and polite submissions are made without the courtesy of even a photocopied rejection. When I get the chance I poke the literary rattlesnake to annoy them and one day I will write a scurrilous book about this lot of greedy, self-serving charlatans and the shark-infested sea they inhabit but I am too busy at present.

Taking into consideration the rewrites and shorts, I have written something in excess of twenty-five fiction-based novels and these are all being given a make-over and then transferred gradually to a progressive self-publishing platform. This is a worldwide publishing site that will enable purchase of these books at reasonable prices in e-book, or paperback form. They will be available pretty much everywhere through all the popular retailers and will take me up to the next two years to complete - mainly held back by getting the covers designed - whilst still writing a couple of additions to the current three-book Furious Fannies Series. All of those in this list will be made available with one every six weeks weeks or so, and it will say so on this website and those on my mailing list will receive an email telling them the latest book is ready for purchase.

Another great step forward was made recently when my sons partner Clare and mother of our wonderful grand-daughter Florence, agreed to work on my on-line media presence, a must for any writer trying to get work out there to the reading public. Watch this space.
